Released:
Bullet-Dodge Neo, Fall 2001; all other figures were scheduled for Fall 2001 but never released.
Card Back Text:
Bullet-Dodge Neo was the only figure in Series III that was released, and the card back only has
photos and copyright information. No other information about the other figures is shown. However,
the initial assortment for Series III is printed on the back of the
N2 Toys Series II packaging.
Package Variations:
None, really, since the series was not released. However, there is a widely-circulated photo
of the Bullet-Dodge Neo figure that looks like a package variation, but is not (see
Bullet-Dodge Neo for more information on this.)
So what the heck happened anyway?:
Series III of the 6-inch Matrix figures (as well as Series II of the 12-inch figures), was
slated for a Fall 2001 release. However, N2 Toys went bankrupt, and could not continue production
of the Matrix toys. And it's really too bad; the sculpts were done by The Four Horsemen, a great action figure design studio who does excellent work (such as the new Masters of the Universe line). We would have had smaller-scale figures of Neo and Morpheus in their martial arts uniforms; a Dozer figure to keep Tank company, and figures of Epoch and Mouse to round out the crew. Not to mention the Lady in Red.
The drought of Matrix action figures would come to an end in 2003, when McFarlane Toys released their
first series of Matrix toys.
